Thuja plicata 'Whipcord'

Whipcord Western Red Cedar.  A crazy little plant with a unique texture and form.  Long strands of glossy foliage shoot out in all directions (like fireworks) when young, and takes on a distinctive cascading or mop-like look with age.  Foliage is green in summer, changing to bronze in winter.  Has multiple stems and a globe-shape habit.  Easy to grow, providing many years of character and 4-season interest.  Great for fairy gardens and little landscapes while small, and can eventually be moved to a larger garden when needed.  An eye-catching plant for little landscapes of all kinds, troughs and containers.  Plants are growing in 2.25" x 2.25" x 3.5"h " pots.  Cold hardy to zone 5.  Shade tolerant.

  • Dwarf conifer, grows about 3-5" per year
  • Prefers moist, well-drained soil
  • Grow in full sun to partial shade
  • Cold hardy to -10 to -20F
  • Recommended for outdoor gardens only
