Ulmus minor 'Jacqueline Hillier'
Jacqueline Hillier Dwarf Elm. One of the coolest little trees for fairy gardens. Miniature elm leaves, about the size of a fingertip, are rich green with deep pleated veins . Has 4-season appeal: Plants leaf out in spring, display green foliage in summer, turn yellow/orange in fall, and reveal its silvery bark and structure for the winter. In the ground, with time and without pruning, plants will reach 6 feet + in height. Popular bonsai and container plant. Some have straight trunks, others have a character-adding curve. Prune in late summer or fall to maintain the "tree-like" look and desired size. Cold hardy (planted in the ground) to zone 5. Plants are about 5-7" tall above a 3.5"h x 4"diameter pot. Please note: Plants are dormant; buds only, no leaves yet.
- Very adaptable, but prefers moist, well-drained soil
- Don't overwater in winter or allow to dry out in summer
- Grow in full sun or partial shade
- Cold hardy to about -20 to -10 F
- Recommended for outdoor gardens; can be grown as bonsai
