Myrtus communis 'Microphylla Variegata'
Attractive plants with elegant, slender, light green leaves, edged in creamy white. Can be pruned/trained to a single woody stem for a "tree" shape. Trim side shoots and long stems to maintain the "tree" shape. Has a spicy scent, like its common full-size herbal kin. Blooms with pretty white pearl-like buds that open to full 6-petal pure white flowers with long showy flower parts. Grows to about 8-12" tall and wide in a season. Plant in full sun to part shade. Said to have low moisture requirements, but don't allow to dry out completely - especially in containers. Cold hardy to USDA zones 9-11. Not tolerant of frost; move indoors when night temperatures fall into the 50's. A favorite for miniature gardens, fairy gardens, and topiaries.
