Cotoneaster apiculata 'Tom Thumb'

Tom Thumb Cotoneaster.  Grow Tom Thumb for its fabulous fall color - like a burning bush for the fairy garden or little landscape.  Little glossy green leaves are thick and durable.  Bright orange/red foliage color and red berries make a dazzling show in the fall.  Deciduous (not evergreen).  Plants have dense, low-growing habit.  Can reach 2'h x 3'wide with time when planted in the ground; stems develop roots where they reach the ground.  Nice for creating a backdrop for the fairy garden or creating a transition from the garden proper to the little landscape.   A great plant for containers and troughs.  Plants are growing in 3.5"h x 4"diameter pots.

  • Easy to grow and adaptable
  • Trim as needed to maintain shape (typically grows 2-4" per year)
  • Appreciates moist, well-drained soil, but can tolerate drier conditions once established
  • Grow in full sun to bright shade
  • Cold hardy to -10 to -20F
  • Recommended for outdoor gardens only
